The early years from 1972 to 1979 at Wilson Gardens and Cooke Town. The house at Wilson Gardens was small, but newly built & compact. On the other hand, the High Street house was old and large and shabby, & had a big untidy garden, with a guava tree near the gate, big bushes of bougainvilla and a rough granite stone garden bench.

Rahul was expected on Christmas Day 1973, but actually arrived on 2nd January 1974. Amachi and a host of uncles, aunts & cousins were there to fuss over him, both in Bangalore, and in Kanjirapally.

Arati was born in Tiruvalla, Kerala and spent her first two months in Kanjirapally. Several older cousins holidaying there at the time fought each other to rock her cradle, and learnt embroidery on her dresses.
